Working is for Chumps!
The other night, I was watching an old re-run of The Simpsons with my little girls. It was an episode that revolved around Bart trying to save up enough money to buy an extremely rare comic book.
To earn money, he started doing odd jobs for an elderly widow in the neighborhood. He cleaned her gutters, pulled weeds out of her garden, and cleaned out her litter box.
After a week of busting his butt he was excited that payday had finally arrived. He was less excited when the lady handed him two shiny quarters!
He had worked so hard and all he had to show for it was a lousy 50 cents!
As Bart goes home grumbling to himself and storming around the house with an attitude, Homer asks what’s wrong…
Bart: I’m through with working. Working is for chumps.
Homer: Son…I’m proud of you. I was twice your age before I realized that!
Like my lesson on money from Uncle Scrooge, this ten second scene from a cartoon influenced me profoundly.

Bart and Homer’s attitude toward working is so common. If you’re still working for a living make an effort to count how many times you say “I hate my job” during the course of a day. You may surprise yourself.
Now are you going to continue muttering that defeatist phrase for the next 20, 30 even 40 years??
I’m not saying you should quit your job, at least not until you’re making some serious cash online. But instead of saying “I hate my job” or “work sucks” try something along the lines of:
“I may not be very happy in my job right now, but I’m going to do something about it.”
Then take action! You’ll be amazed at how your entire outlook can change just by changing your mindset a bit.
Suddenly they’ll be a light at the end of the tunnel. And as everyone around you worries about meetings, deadlines and layoffs, you won’t worry so much. Because your “side business” not only gives you a supplemental income and a fall-back plan. It gives you a reason to dream and work for a better tomorrow.
